CUYAHOGA VALLEY SCENIC RAILROAD

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad serves the developing Ohio & Erie Canalway by offering an excursion rail experience that currently connects riders from the northern edge of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park at Rockside Road to and now through Akron to Canton, Ohio. The ultimate vision of this railroad is to extend service into downtown Cleveland at a point along the Cuyahoga River below Tower City.

Today, two committees have been formed in Cleveland to work towards the solutions that will allow the excursion railroad to reach downtown Cleveland. The obstacles are track and liability and finding a management approach that allows for the continued freight service within the Cuyahoga River Valley, while adding a limited passenger service that will accomodate future visitors.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad offers a number of very special events, from Wine & Beer Tastings to Underground Railroad programs to the North Pole Excursion. During the summer, there is a special multi-modal train/bike program where you can purchase a pass and ride the rails with your bike - depart in Peninsula for a bike ride back to Rockside Road.

MISSION of CVSR:

• Provide educational and recreational programs in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park
  

• Provide alternative transportation as one of the three linking elements of the 110-mile Ohio & Erie Canalway
  

• Use and preserve historic railroad equipment from the “Streamlined” passenger era and offer heritage passenger rail experience to the public

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad serves The Ohio & Erie Canalway by providing excursion rail service through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Independence to Akron, and Canton. Passengers ride in authentic climate-controlled coaches built circa 1940. The Scenic Railroad offers special events and "Bike and Hike" excursions where visitors hike or bike one way and return by train.
